I’ve always been very active and alert. Surfing the Internet is one of my favorite activities. But a severe case of sepsis in my leg changed all that. Not only did it effect me physically, but mentally as well. I was confused and anxious, unable even to navigate the Internet. It turned out my leg had to be amputated, and after being discharged from the hospital, I needed post-acute care. But it was a short, unsuccessful stay. My wife met with my case manager and a liaison from Centers Health Care. They decided to admit me to Schenectady Center—a great decision! The team there helped strengthen me both physically and mentally. I’m so grateful to everyone at Schenectady Center from the CNA’s, Nurses, and Therapy Team, to the housekeepers and maintenance staff, which maintained an immaculate facility. With the support of the entire care team, I’m up and walking again, home with my wife, and surfing the net in my spare time!

“I’ve always been very independent. I like to go to the supermarket, take a drive—do things on my own without any help. And I wanted to take a trip to Arizona. But I’m 86, and when I took a fall and fractured my hip, I had to put my Arizona dreams on hold. The hip surgery was followed by renal failure…and then I got COVID-19.
The hospital recommended that I seek post-acute rehab after hospitalization, but I was extremely reluctant to go into therapy. A Hospital Liaison—she was very kind and patient—together with my son convinced me to go to Schenectady Center…and I’m so glad they did.
The therapists at Schenectady worked with me daily, and they were great. They gave me my independence back. After a few short weeks, I knew I would be discharged. Next stop: Arizona!”

I had taken a bad fall and injured my ankle, and the first skilled nursing facility that I went to for therapy left me frustrated. They were no help at all. I was beginning to think I’d never get better.
When I was admitted to Schenectady Center, I knew right away that this place was different. The staff went above and beyond to help me. The therapists exceeded all my expectations. They were caring, compassionate and professional, and it wasn’t long before I started getting my strength back.
I’m so grateful to the Schenectady Center team. From the liaison who smoothed my admission to the entire staff, they were all there for me. I’m confident now that I’ll soon be back home and on my own, stronger than ever!
